But then Cal doesn't do social media does he.. No chants at home games at Cal, nobody screaming for him to go, no chants of "you don't know what you're doing" etc. You keep calling home supporters toxic, where is this toxicity? On Facebook? Just said where. Believe he gets abuse from plenty of inbreds in East Stand. No he doesn't. It's just the usual that every single manager has had in the past, saying about subs or calling out performances etc. Nobody calls for his head at games or aims toxic abuse at him.

Just said where. Believe he gets abuse from plenty of inbreds in East Stand. The odd lunatic shouting get a sub on doesn’t constitute plenty or abuse. It almost becomes an excuse. Cal has been the most supported manager I’ve ever seen at Chester, more than Harry, Wright or Young and rightly so given his history with the club and being ‘one of us’ but this is just a narrative. For what it’s worth I agree with you though. We go into next season with Cal. He gets until Christmas for me. But enough of the toxic narrative.

Some fans having doubts about whether he was ready for the job is hardly having it in for him from the start. He seems up for having another crack next season so let's give it a go. He's under contract anyway, so unless he walks there's not much debate to be had. But also let's stop making allowances for his age and that he's "still learning". Personally I have doubts that he will rip up his tactics so it will come down to recruitment. I don't think we're going to see expansive football, with wingers. Priorities are a brick shithouse in the middle and someone who can poach a few goals. It worries me that both Peers and Caton are under contract. Think Cal said we didn't score in 15 games, which is 33 per cent. Also that our forwards were only available for 40 per cent of games. On the plus side we surely can't be worse next season and we've only just missed out on top 7.

The fans who went yesterday I very much doubt are toxic, like most of our away support. I mean certain people on here. The usual suspects the ones who never post when we’re doing well or winning games. Only ever come on to slag the management (whoever it is not just Cal) B&J much worse. And slag the board off and the fan owned model. Facebook much worse than Deva Chat. Like Deesideblue said you could understand if next season we’re struggling in October then I’m sure even he would think it’s not going to plan. But I don’t think that will happen. I’m confident he will put a side together which will emulate last season and hopefully go one better. But then Cal doesn't do social media does he.. No chants at home games at Cal, nobody screaming for him to go, no chants of "you don't know what you're doing" etc. You keep calling home supporters toxic, where is this toxicity? On Facebook?
It seems to be the main stand. I certainly hear some ridiculous comments from there and there seems to be some proper idiots behind the dugout area in particular.

I'm sure when Calum signed his new contract he waived the right to a pay off if the club wanted to get rid of him.
He will be as disappointed as any of us are over how this season has gone. It will hurt him and he knows recruitment was not right in the summer but trying to find a striker who will score you 20 goals a season on a free transfer is not easy hence why the money we have had to spend on extra stewards police and CCTV after the Brackley game could have paid for a striker by way of a transfer fee Willoughby on a free don't usually happen
I think the one frustration the fans have is the style of football at home especially.
The majority of this seasons squad was here last season so finding it hard to work out why it's gone wrong.
The big worry for next season is we are ending the season with no commercial manager, who is out and about getting sponsorship in renewing current sponsorship deals etc? This is where the big money is for us.
Do the players still stay overnight for away games? I know that was a big part of the preparation for last seasons games.

Historically the area has always attracted some strange people but I feel Calum gives them too much of his time which in turn has led to his disciples creating this toxic narrative. The home games I’ve been to the crowd had been supportive. Especially given in several of those games we’ve barely had a shot on goal.

This narrative of our home support being toxic needs to stop from the usual suspects. It is not true whatsoever

From where we are there have been very very few negative shouts aimed towards our coaching team, and they only came recently when we're losing and the games have been dull. I would suggest any other manager would have got a load of abuse well before that point in a game and in the season. Most people around us, of varying ages, have found the last few games to be a really dull watch. When you aren't winning them either, that would make any fanbase show their disapproval. Which ever club it is.

Just to clarify query made earlier . There were the odd few venting there frustration about the second half performance and the season overall but everyone was certainly behind Cal . I just hope he looks to try and assemble a solid side for next season which like it or not works in this league. Tamworth are generally functional and stingy at the back. We can’t carry on with tippy tappy as when they can’t get into the game it’s awful .

Been a member here for years - but don't really post anything anymore. Always seems to be the same few people battling each other for moral high-ground over minor things. It's tedious to read sometimes.
Regarding the manager - honestly I've never really taken to him. I can't say I enjoy listening to his interviews much and don't find him endearing to be honest. It doesn't mean I'm not behind him or the team but as others have pointed out, when we're playing dull football and losing it's hard to not let that frustration come out. I've been around football/work/life long enough now to know you have to be careful what you wish for. The thing is with Cal he seems reluctant to go for it - negative tactics at home, taking a striker off when we need a goal etc. Sure we don't know what it takes to be a football manager - I'm not saying it's an easy job but there's so many of us who share this frustration that we can't all be wrong, surely? I'd back him for another pre-season and give him until Christmas - but I'd like to see him be more positive with tactics and formation (at home especially). We seem too easy for other teams to work out and don't seem to be able to dominate a game for long enough to make it count.
I don't think there is a 'negative' narrative around the stands or social media - I don't hear any abuse towards Cal from the nearside of the Harry Mac. But I do think that there's a majority of us who think things could be better - who think we should be able to get more out of the players we've got here ... Not sure that's negativity - maybe more the start of the inevitable if things don't change.

Calum will only be here next season because his contract makes him unsackable. That's a load of bollocks. He won't stay if not wanted. I remember a mention of a clause in his contract that protects the club if that scenario arises. A Leeds utd fan wtf🫣 I'm a Chester ST holder. First game in April 1960.

Lame effort second half. Rethink needed. Weeks doing fancy pirouettes to look good in the middle of the pitch in that situation was pathetic. A bit of heat of the moment blame maybe, but I'm tired of him now. I felt Weeks' decision making was particularly poor yesterday. There were two or three times when he had a chance to shoot on the edge of the box, but instead took an extra touch and spin before getting closed out.

It’s obviously very disappointing that the season has ended this way and it’s a massive understatement to say I’mI not looking forward to next weeks final game ,Darlington will be celebrating like they’ve won the league but it will feel like a funeral for us and no doubt it will be our lowest attendance of the season. That said a few decent signing in pre season will get us back onside although it certainly doesn’t feel like it at the moment. It's funny how Darlington are at the other end of the table, but their fans will be much happier than ours right now. Football is all about momentum.

There have been negative comments made by some but to me “come on Cal get them to get stuck in” doesn’t constitute someone giving him stick or abuse. However when this was said a few weeks ago Cal responded to it having a go back to that fan when really he should have ignored it. Think this is an area where Cal has to learn to ignore. He has in my opinion had a fairly easy ride at home games over the past two seasons where results and performances have been 6/10 at best. Last season we were lucky that we had a forward who could create and take chances, this season we have faced long lay off injuries to Caton and Hall which has impacted on shape and probably tactics. I’m all for giving Cal another season and hope that he learns from mistakes made, on and off the pitch.

I'm also a ST holder, and started watching us in the early 70's, so probably qualify as an 'old timer' in some peoples' eyes.
I also sit fairly close behind the dug out. Anyone who thinks Cal gets 'toxic abuse' is living in an alternative reality. Chester fans have never been particularly vocally critical of managers at the match, and he gets the easiest ride of the lot. Given the terrible performances at home in recent weeks, and how we've sleep-walked into missing out on a play-off slot, there aren't many clubs where the manager would still get almost complete support.

Quite the opposite actually. I just get pissed off reading posts going on about the toxic fanbase, and that's the reason we don't win at home. As others have posted I just don't hear all this abuse. Maybe it goes on, but I haven't heard it. I like Cal and really want him to succeed here. Like the vast majority of the fans, including those in the Main Stand. Have I enjoyed our football this season, especially after Christmas? No. I find it really dull to watch week after week. I still go to the games, including away. Unfortunately its been a tough watch at times, but it won't take much to tweek it into a better one. Whether a manager likes it or not, it's the home form that keeps a manager popular and in a job. Most of our previous managers had already won this league, or had good playing careers. It maybe that some of our older fan base just see a young manager who hasn't got experience or a playing career, and can't get past that. Maybe they ignore the Youth team successes, or the fact he's a Chester fan too. Maybe he probably won't change their views unless he gets us promoted. Supporters at any well supported club in any league will feel that way.

Well, it might not officially be over yet, but surely none of us are kidding ourselves. If Boston were to win on Tuesday, it’d feel like a weight off our shoulders in all honesty - at least we’d be going into the Darlo game knowing we were only playing for pride, rather than desperately hoping for an absolute miracle.
I’ve criticised Cal this season, both for his tactics and his recruitment, but not once have I called for his head, and there remains little doubt in my mind that he’s the right man to take us forward. His commitment to the cause cannot be called into question for a minute - it ought to be obvious to everyone that his passion is not simply performative, but that he cares deeply about the club and is determined to lead us to success. It was really classy, and indeed brave, for him to shake everyone’s hand after full-time yesterday and to personally thank each of us individually for our support, and that simply hammered those feelings home even more. He’ll be just as disappointed as the rest of us with how this season has panned out, and I expect he’ll spend the summer analysing our performances and taking note of the necessary improvements - not just because that’s the sort of manager he is, but also because he’ll be aware that, with much of the goodwill generated by last season having now been eroded, there will be a greater level of pressure on him and the team to get off to a better start in August than we’ve become used to seeing. The one piece of advice I’d give him - and I say this in the realisation that he might well be reading this - would be to stop reading comments on here and on Twitter. By its very nature, social media amplifies the voices of the dissenting minority, and in many cases can also make valid and nuanced criticisms appear harsher and more malicious than intended; unfortunately, some of his comments in interviews would suggest that the stuff he’s read has affected him personally, and it’s led to a few rather ill-advised outbursts which have risked inflaming tensions among the fanbase. There will always be people trying to undermine any manager but the reality is, of course, that the vast majority of us are still right behind Cal - I sit behind the dugout and contrary to what some are claiming, there has been very little abuse aimed directly at him, though there’s been plenty of understandable discontent with the style of football on display.
Focus now has to turn to what I think it would be fair to characterise as the most pivotal summer we’ve had in quite some time, as it looks as though at least some degree of rebuilding will be on the cards. I’ve never doubted the players’ effort, or had any reason to believe we have a dressing room full of ‘bad apples’ - in fact, I’ve been reluctant to criticise on an individual level, because they’re a likeable bunch and I wouldn’t want to be appearing to doubt their integrity - but we’ve got to be ruthless, and the brutal reality is that some have not produced the performances that we would expect from someone on their salary. On reflection, I feel I might’ve been a bit too lenient when I gave my thoughts the other day regarding the sort of retained list I’d like to see; while I still believe we’ve got a very good squad on paper, it clearly hasn’t worked out the way we hoped or expected, and some of the higher earners almost have to become ‘sacrificial lambs’ if we are to bring in the fresh blood that’s evidently required. A certain midfielder ought to count himself lucky that he’s still got two years left on his contract, or else he might have been one of those on the chopping block - his performance yesterday was as poor as I can remember seeing not just from him, but from any Chester player this season, and for both our sake and his we desperately need to hope he can return to the levels he’s shown previously. I think it’s quite clear which positions need strengthening, but we also need to recruit players who can help fill the current leadership void. There’s been a concerning lack of communication on the pitch at times, and too often heads have dropped after conceding - we’ve picked up just ten points in the fifteen league games in which we’ve gone 1-0 down. While I’d expect recruitment to largely centre around young players again, there needs to be a greater emphasis on bringing in experience and big characters, especially seeing as the few older heads currently on the books might all be packing their bags. Put simply, if we’re to get promoted, we need a dressing room of winners.
Finally, I couldn’t help but be hugely impressed with Brackley - of all the strong teams they’ve fielded over the years, this incarnation might be the best of the lot, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this were the year they finally win the playoffs. Murombedzi has blossomed into quite possibly the best player in this league, and would perhaps be the opposition player I’d most love to sign (again), not that it’d be at all realistic - it’s difficult to believe that he was one of the infamous ‘expenses-only’ brigade under Bignot a few years ago. Fair play to Gavin Cowan, too, who seemed a poor appointment at the time, but who now appears a far cry from the manager who started the decline at Telford. Not even sure you can blame the Brackley fans for wanting to get one over us either, after what happened last year and the attempts some of our fans have made to goad them since then. Fingers crossed that they, or any other side for that matter, will be unable to rain on our parade for a third time next season…
