The number of results that needed to go in our favour was always going to be tough. Beating Brackley was always going to be tough. Still wouldn't be surprised if 74 points is enough for 7th

Always needed a win really And if we can somehow sneak a win we would still have a reasonable chance on the last day regardless of what's going on elsewhere, but we need two without reply in less than 20 minutes, and I'm not sure how taking Tollitt off fits in with that aim.

Left ourselves with too much to do too late. It's not really today that's cost us but that terrible run of home games.

That's it then. Not been consistently good enough when it mattered.

29 points from a possible 66 this calendar and 6 wins in 22 games. No goals at home in the last 4. It's been absolutely dire. The warning signs were there from the first game losing to Bishop Stortford who have been useless. Next week at home is going to be a fun afternoon.
I'm not calling for a change of management but we need a change in approach.

Just sign Kurt Willoughby back for starters. Would have made all the difference to be honest. !

Very, very poor season, I'm afraid. The entertainment level has been low, especially since Christmas, which has generally been dire. The Glendon/Weeks pairing simply doesn't work often enough, it neutralises Weeks' as a forward player, and leaves us too tippy-tappy in a league where physical assets in midfield are a must. The forwards have been very disappointing - Caton has barely been fit, Peers has been a disappointment, as has Tollitt largely (though I'd keep him if possible), and the rest have been just rubbish - the recruitment has been dire. Can't knock the defence or the keeper, but a rethink going forward is needed - starting with playing more quickly, taking risks in transition, rather than just sideways passing that allows every defence to get set. I'd keep Cal, but he needs a long hard think about what's going to work in this league for next season.

Sounded like we had a fair few chances first half but then second half just sat back and stopped pressing them. Really weak performance in a huge game, Burke injury sounded like it cost us too tbf but the attacking subs came too late. Really deflating end to the season, complacency set in around Christmas and we've been shocking at home bar about 3 games all season.
I hope lessons will be learned from this season but I'm starting to worry Cal will be stubborn with his approach to the team structure, which would be a huge concern. We really should've got 7th at least this season, really dont want to hear excuses about budget when the likes of Curzon can manage it.

For me, with how we set up and play, we're missing a clinical striker LIKE Willoughby. Whether that 30k made a difference, I don't know. However I certainly wouldn't sack Young Big 'ead as he is learning his trade and I believe he will take lessons from this season and we go again next season.
As for recruitment, no one moaned about the signings we made. Some of them, for whatever reason, haven't worked out.

That was discussed at the CFU meeting. 50k is surely a decent striker and the idiots against Brackley cost us this season. (Being objective however, looking at Cal's recruitment, no guarantee that he would have found a decent striker with that additional £££ in his budget)

So disappointed to be in this league next season, a forward on loan a month or so ago would have solved this,I have to question if as a club we have the required ambition as its been clear to see where the problem was since Christmas

Unbelievably, we're actually not mathematically out of it!
We will be if South Shields get a draw against Southport midweek though, or if Boston beat Banbury. Both of which seem very likely, so it's going to be a dead rubber on the last day.
Edit: got that wrong, South Shields don't have a game in hand and play Southport next Saturday. So if Boston don't beat Banbury on Tuesday then technically we go into the last game with something to play for, but realistically it's over.

He's had a good season and a poor season, so he's almost starting again from scratch next season for me. I'm sure he'll learn from this season.

Definitely can’t blame supporter toxicity for this one. Serious rethink needed by the manager. Nowhere near good enough for Chester Football Club this.

Would bet money Cal is already looking at players who’d suit us for next season. Can’t exactly blame him for recruitment as there was excitement from everyone for near enough all the signing pre-season, injuries killed us early on, definitely had a massive impact. Some signings brought in during season haven’t worked out but there’s far more less players to choose from so it’s one of them. Bit of luck throughout the season and we make the playoffs, roll on next season with Cal

Lame effort second half.
Rethink needed. Weeks doing fancy pirouettes to look good in the middle of the pitch in that situation was pathetic. A bit of heat of the moment blame maybe, but I'm tired of him now.

Bit of luck throughout the season and we make the playoffs, roll on next season with Cal Disagree with that if I'm being honest. The problem at this level is that us supporters don't know the players that may be available, or what they're like. I queried the Goodson and Burton signings after watching them preseason. Neither looked what we needed. We've tried something like 10 strikers over this season, and none of them has really succeeded, for various reasons. Some might have been unlucky, some have had injuries, some a lack of ability. You could argue we seriously reduced our chances of a top play off position by losing 3 away games in August against the 3 worst sides in the division. Add 7 or 9 points to our total and we've had a good season. Cal will know all this better than us. He'll do it better next season. It will be interesting (or worrying) to see which players leave this summer. We go again next season in what's likely to be a tougher division.

Another season down the pan.
Hopefully Cal looks at all the teams above us and see’s the way they play and size of the lads and takes note.
Also the style of football at home has bored a lot of us into submission.
He’s done enough to go another season for me, and let’s see how our recruitment goes.
Deflated here.
