Has anyone seen any announcement of a pre season tour to the isle of Man or have I just imagined I have heard that?

The guy I spoke to in the club shop just now didn’t know anything about it.
He did say that we had played there years ago in some competition including them lot down the road. Didn’t know that. Would be something different if it went ahead.

Would be something different if it went ahead. There used to be an annual event where 4 teams would play each other in a mini tournament. Think we did it a few times in the 80s(?).

It was 1994 when we took part in it. Wrexham were there for the same tournament but we didn’t play them due to how the draw panned out.

Don’t get the point of going to IoM (if it happens) as I don’t see how we get a return on the investment. Would rather the money was spent on squad strengthening - there are plenty of local teams a short bus journey away who could match the competition anything on the IoM could line up for us.

Quite a few of us went on that tour, had an absolutely fantastic time. Remember going to a fans forum the night before the tournament started and Brian Little was managing the Goats at the time and he got asked if there was any truth about him and bothering sheep which brought a lively response from the Goats gathered.🤣

I think a condition of FC Isle of Man playing in the North West Counties League is that they have to pay for the other teams' travel and accommodation. They do that for teams who only take a handful of fans if any. If there's any truth in the suggestion that us and Bury are involved, and they get to keep the gate receipts, they may think it's worth stumping up for us to go and stay there, plus potentially a bit of a tourism boost for the island.

A good team bonding session at the start or low points in the season, can really turn the tide and bring the squad together. Nigel Clough used to say have a budget for 23 players, he'd spend 22 players worth and keep the rest for a mid season trip away 'warm weather training'.

Talking to a director at a North West Counties game last season apparently IOM have to pay all travel expenses (including cost of hotel, coach travel to and from hotel, airport, ground etc) for a maximum of 25 people. www.nwcfl.com/news-articles.php?id=9421www.nwcfl.com/news-articles.php?id=9429

Sometimes as a club you ‘have to put yourself out there’ We are a community club and as such we should be doing community things this includes trips away to give the fans and players something a little bit of enjoyment plus increasing the profile of the club because there may be some good media coverage of it. If we keep this “we connect afford it” attitude when trying to improve the profile of the club what’s the point of being a community asset?

Return flights are about £50. We would take 5 or so staff, probably have a max of 18-19 players and it would cost just over a grand maybe two including accommodation. Let us have our fun 😂
