Boston United have beaten Alfreton Town 4-5 on penalties. Great can’t wait to watch the Alfreton keeper Willis time waste for another 90 mins next season.

Alfreton are always a bastard to play against but I would never fancy them to win three playoff games against strong sides and get promoted.

Not our league but I see Bradford PA have suffered back-to-back relegations. They'll be playing at the same level as Vauxhall and Nantwich next season.

Probably not the greatest advert for the league that both playoff ties thus far have ended goalless…
Anyway, hopefully Stefan Mols and Devon Matthews will be straight down to the Deva in the morning 👀

Not exactly a great advert for NLN so far.
Happy to see Scunthorpe get beat though, after their fans spending last summer trying to work out how many records they would beat on their way to winning the league by Xmas.

Chorley, Brackley or Boston in the NL. It'll be interesting how they get on considering the most recent Clubs promoted have struggled.

The way it's going someone will get promoted without scoring a goal in normal play surely that would be a first

Can’t help but feel as though the fact there still hasn’t been a single goal in the playoffs - and that, by all accounts, every game has been pretty poor - rubs it in even further with regards to the quality of the league and how much of a missed opportunity this season was for us. Ultimately though, it’s not like there’d have been any more goals if we were involved!

Great news. Another day out at Scunny. Based on their chairman’s statement around 10 days ago they have serious cash flow issues, debts and overspending. They have said many high earners have to go. Can’t see them being as strong next season.

Adam Murray mucked up in the summer over there.

In the NL, one of Solihull Moors, Bromley or Altrincham will go into the EFL via the playoffs. Weird that Solihull have become a force in that league. They seemed a bit of a joke when we were last in it, including memorably not having their ground ready in time for their season opener against us.
Hope it's Alty myself. Under a fair system, they'd have been promoted to Division 4 in the '70s or '80s, during which they were one of non-league's biggest clubs.

The runners-up in all three National League divisions went out yesterday. Although these play-offs are in theory structured to give the highest-placed sides an advantage, they often don’t seem to pan out as such and the percentage of home wins never seems particularly high.
Still fancy Brackley to win the play-offs, but Boston seem to be getting it right when it matters. They may not be scoring many, but four consecutive away games without conceding indicates they are set up well under Ian Culverhouse.

True but still doesn't really explain why we were third at Christmas, and ended up 10th. played well up until Christmas..then…and this has happened many times before… wet heavy grounds causing us injuries, just like it happens to many teams, our problem …our squad was far too small, it caused Cal to play many players out of position, we didn’t have a particularly good strike force..and more importantly, we never had the funds to strengthen like other clubs did…. I think you've touched on something here. Our style of play very much suits bowling green quality, and 4G pitches where we can pass it around. The wettest winter in years, possibly decades, may have been a factor. Having said that, it is the home results which disappointed and Baz and the team kept the Deva in great nick despite the torrents of rain.

You would think that the next placed eligible club would then go in to the play offs and keep the format of the play offs Wouldn't surprise me if the NL finds some way to keep Boreham Wood up through all this. My brother went to the relegation game against Ebbsfleet. Six years ago the Boreham Wood keeper mocked Chester fans when we were relegated, and said "Enjoy National League North." What goes around comes around. The same keeper was distraught, on the ground in tears, and my brother told him to "Enjoy National League South!"

Brackley become the first team to score in the playoffs, with a 1-0 win enough to see them through to a final against Boston.
Pretty good outcome for us, I’d say - whoever wins, it’ll be one less gruelling away journey in the calendar, and one less potential challenger for next season.
