Wetherspoons after the game day was rammed. Half the place on tables for hours singing songs. Good day.

Remember it well. Was taking a career break and went off travelling, so only saw a few games early in the season. For the Scarborough game I was in the middle of an epic storm in Laos, constantly trying to refresh the score in an internet cafe. Say what you like about Mark Wright but he built a great team that season.

Enjoyed the day at the time. Few years later I realised that this had been bought by Curtis Warren and Colin Smith and we all know where they got their money from.
Very hard to look back on it in a positive way given that context.

Some great memories from being there that day. Pretty damn chilling to hear Vaughan talking though - thank God those days are over.

Honestly there’s a film in it somewhere.

Very hard to look back on it in a positive way given that context. Yes I’d say that’s how I feel as well. It was a great day but it’s hard to separate it from Vaughan and what followed for me, not least because he was right there in the middle of the celebrations as we lifted the trophy. That summer offered some unfortunate indicators of what was to come and even the bus parade to mark us winning the title got cancelled. On a vaguely related theme I see Forest Green’s relegation back to the National League has now been confirmed. ‘Good riddance’ seems to a widespread attitude among fans of EFL clubs from what I’ve seen.

With the second highest wage budget too…things have changed a lot monetarily in that league..

As much as I feel for the diehard FGR fans it’s seeing things like this which gives me a bit of hope for us for the future.
Teams with no major supporter base and being bank rolled by a monied individual just won’t work long term.

The league has improved so much since then. Not sure if that team would win the league at the current standard .Was such a good team though, even the bench was strong. Full of proper players who give 100%. Loved Paul Carden, some player

Strange thing to say about a team with balance between solid defence and flair.
Can only dream of seeing such things again

Success doesn't happen that often for us so I still look back and love that season. Top days out, nailbiting games, Twiss thunderbolts. Fair enough it went downhill with SV pretty quickly but we've suffered enough over the years and I'm not going to be po-faced about promotionback to the league. One of only 6 promotions I've seen.

I'd been watching Chester 6 or 7 years before I witnessed their first ever promotion. At that time I think it was only Chester and Aldershot that were the only league clubs to have never celebrated a promotion.

It was 14 years for me and unfortunately at the time I think we were the only team never to have been promoted as the shots were promoted in 72/73
