Well, the Curzon chairman reckons we are fifth biggest. Of the list above would you say that any, except Scunthorpe, have a substantially bigger budget than us? I don’t know, it’s a genuine question. I think that’s the key when we are looking at budget. If we are around and about in that group then, yes, our budget is competitive. If they are, say, £100k better off per season then you are looking at a 20 per cent better budget and obviously you’d expect those teams to do better. I guess we also need to be looking at the teams with a lower budget than us that are doing well, and ask what they are doing differently in terms of management, squad size, the loan market, playing style or recruitment. I think we all agree that the second half of this season hasn’t been good enough, irrespective of whether we sneak into the play offs or not. Don’t know about substantially with most of them but know Darlingtons was/is 2k a week more than ours. And Bostons £44k a season more

Scunthorpe Buxton Kings Lynn South Shields Brackley Spennymoor Darlington Boston Hereford Tamworth All bigger budgets Hereford spent £550k on wages in 22/23, Darlington £586k, we spent £736k. Includes coaching staff for all three.
Hereford will be bigger this season though.

Where did we get £736k from Anders. Just curious

I've only just checked the headline page of our financial statement, wages was £603k year end 2022, then up to £736k last year.
Darlington fan on twitter puts a lot of good stuff out. The Darlo and Hereford figures like ours includes non player wages.

So if we have over 500k in the bank why aren’t we putting more into the playing budget and why are people saying that the £30k we ‘lost’ due to the Brackley fiasco made so much of a difference to our ability to get out of this league?

Cash at bank and reserves are different things. That cash is needed to pay our liabilities.

31st May when those accounts go up to is probably the point in the year when the bank balance is at it's highest. Probably about £300K of it will relates to season ticket sales for the 23/24 season. That has to last all year. I bet the current bank balance is significantly less than £500k

Personally I would renew my season ticket with no discounts to help a little more providing I could pay over a few months. The real key is getting more funds from other people rather than relying on the same group of fans especially in these financially tough times, how to do that is the real question.

Give up then, find something else to do while the rest of us go to football matches with our friends and family. Nobody forces anybody to go. There is no magic money tree. Maybe one day a credible investor will emerge and we can go £10m in debt into League 1. Until then there is no point whinging, enjoy what you can on a weekend, be that Chester FC or B&Q. Life's too short.

I remember one of the directors at the time telling me "it is what it is" when we almost ran ourselves into the ground financially. What a twat, I thought. Luckily some others got off their arses and saved the club.

There is so much more potential but its hard to drive the support needed. If we had 1000k fans give £25 a month thats 300k, doesn't sound a lot but this day of age it's a big ask now

I’ve been in exactly the same place as you after Barnes, Gutterman, Smith, SV etc but if this model can’t make us competitive in this league, and by that I mean it simply has to be the play offs, then questions have to be asked. I’m content to accept that the manager and players haven’t performed and hit targets but if it’s budget then how exactly are all these sides getting more money than us? They can’t all be lucky or in debt?

Nobody is saying that means settle for this League. The are no benefits to an investor buying us, thats why they arent queuing to the tip and beating down the doors. The land isn't ours, the CT/KGV is a registered charity and our academy produces one decent player every couple of years. We'd need a benefactor, and they are very, very scarce and round here I reckon non-existant.

Notice Altrincham got into the National League playoffs yesterday which is a fantastic achievement.
What’s their story with regards to investors? A few years ago, we were neck and neck in the play offs and even took Johnston off them, so we must have had a similar budgets at the time?
Is it just they struck it lucky with a really good manager and a clear identity? Or are they bankrolled? If it’s the former, then surely they are the blueprint for us to follow?

Even then, the way they got up from our level comfortably consolidated in the division above is impressive. It’s another argument for continuity, not panicking and letting Cal build something - hopefully having learned from some of the errors this season.

What are they getting out of putting money into Alty? Are we just unlucky that nobody local with money is interested in club? There is no easy answer to our budget. We have nothing to asset strip so that puts off dodgy owners (unless they think they can use the land for other money making schemes). It pretty much leaves us with fan-owned and financed or hope that a local philanthropist decides to put money in, or somebody who wants to fuel their ego via publicty of getting a club through the leagues. It is a long slog approach but I can't see another way than currently, we need to keep making links with local businesses and build up that side of the club bit by bit. Fan zone should help revenues when that is done. Then maybe that revenue then enable to do something else that builds other revenue. We have to it piecemal unfortunately. For increasing crowds we have done a fantastic job in attracting younger ones now. We are just held back by continually being rubbish in front of big crowds.

Everyone wants investors to keep pumping money into their clubs and as we know the latest two have been promoted into league one after gaining promotion from the national league, but it looks like two previous sugar daddy teams in Forest Green and Sutton Utd are very likely to be relegated back to the national league from league two.so even if you get a money man on board the chances of it bringing long term success is slim you would just have to enjoy the ride while it lasted then back to looking for another sugar daddy.

Chester should take some credit for Alty’s success, after they pulled off one of the best bits of transfer business you’ll see selling us John Johnston and using the money to bring in Elliott Durrell, Craig Mahon, Dan Mooney and Josh Lundstram. All of whom played roles in getting them promoted that season at our expense.

Maybe investors have looked at us but feel that with the location of the ground that restricts how much income we can bring in. The ground needs a lot of money spent on it which again may put investors off. There seen to be alot of clubs at the moment who have investors or are looking for investors but what happens when they want out? I think Albert mentioned in the last week or so the club have some ideas to bring some extra income in using th car park on non match days.
